Windowless Air Conditioner - The Portable Choice

Some people call it portable air conditioner while some call it free standing units-windowless air conditioner units are the best choice for people who like to move their cooling from one place to another.

The best part about windowless air conditioner is the freedom it offers to the user. It can be moved from room to room for versatile comfort. However, this versatility comes for a cost! These units are more expensive and more energy-consuming than window air conditioners.

So if you prefer comfort over energy consumption and cost; windowless air condition is for you! These are console units that are three to four feet tall and one to two feet wide. But nowadays you do get compact sized units which take up minimum space in your room. These units have no hassles of installation like the central and window air conditioner. They are fit for people who cannot use conventional methods of cooling. For example, if you are staying in a rented apartment where breaking windows or walls are not allowed, then windowless air conditioner is the best option.

These units however have some limitations. While windowless air conditioner blows cool air from its front vents, it blows out hot air from the back. This means that you need to sit in front on the air conditioner if you want cool air blowing at you. Basically these units or other refrigeration appliances do not cool the air of the space, but they move heat; so heat moved from one place needs to be released elsewhere. Unlike window or central air conditioners which have inside and outside component to keep cool air in and release hot air outside; windowless air condition does this mechanism in the same room.

But this limitation can be mended with a vent hose. Almost all windowless air conditioner units come with vent hose and other fittings that help in increasing the effectiveness of cooling in the room they are placed in. The vent hose is connected at the back of the unit and the other end is placed outside a slightly opened window or door or even another room. So what happens here is the unit blows in fresh cool air in the room it’s placed in and hot air is diverted outside.

The moisture that is condensed during the cooling process needs to have a outlet to accumulate. Therefore windowless air conditioner models have a tray or bucket at the back which needs to be emptied periodically. But this can be quite taxing, so some models come with an auto-evaporate condenser which evaporates the moisture that goes out of the vent hose along with the hot air. These models are much more efficient and convenient.

Portable or windowless air conditioner is no where close to the effectiveness of window or central air conditioners. These units exhaust room air which keeps the condenser coils cool and then throws out hot air through the vent hose; which means cool room air is blow outside in the process. Therefore the efficiency of portable air conditioners are not quite effective.
